Chris Rock’s ‘Spiral’ Tops Angelina Jolie’s ‘Those Who Wish Me Dead’ at Weekend Box Office

It seems that audiences are looking for more chills than thrills this weekend with the Chris Rock-led Spiral: From the Book of Saw coming out ahead of Angelina Jolie‘s new thriller, Those Who Wish Me Dead. Part of the reasoning for this could be that Spiral is the newest chapter in the well-established Saw franchise, and also includes performance from Samuel L. Jackson. The film earned a total of $8.7 million in its first weekend, a somewhat dissappointing gross compared to other recent films like Mortal Kombat or Godzilla Vs. Kong, but not an abnormal weekend for the COVID-19 pandemic.

Jolie’s film was also beaten out by Guy Ritchie and Jason Statham‘s newest action thriller, Wrath of Man, which earned $3.7 million at the box office during its second weekend showing. The film’s total gross nearing the $60 million mark. Those Who Wish Me Dead finally landed at third place with just $2.8 million domestically and $1.2 million in 33 other countries for its first weekend.

The new Saw film hasn’t seen the most positive reception from critics, earning a 38% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes with 162 reviews, but general audiences seem to be enjoying the new movie much more with an audience score of 76% from over 500 ratings.
