Chris Hemsworth, Jurnee Smollett, Miles Teller to star in Joseph Kosinski’s ‘SpiderHead’

It looks like Netflix has another hit on their hands with Joseph Kosinski’s next film Spiderhead. The film will star Thor actor Chris Hemsworth, Lovecraft Country’s Jurnee Smollett and Miles Teller, with the script being helmed by Deadpool and Zombieland screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick.

Spiderhead is set in a near future where convicts are offered the chance to volunteer as medical test subjects in hopes of shortening their sentences. The film will focus on two prisoners who become test patients for an emotion-altering drug that forces them to grapple with their pasts.

The story is an adaptation of a short story by George Saunders that first ran in The New Yorker and went on to take part in his bestselling anthology, Tenth of December.

This film will be Kosinski’s follow-up to Top Gun: Maverick which is set to come out next year. It will also be the third project Kosinski’s directed with Teller in one of the leading roles.

Hemsworth’s Extraction came out earlier this year and became Netflix’s most watched feature. Plans for a sequel to the action-packed thriller are already underway.

Earlier this year Smollett starred as Black Canary in the Harley Quinn spinoff, Birds of Prey. She’s also one of the leads in the ongoing HBO series Lovecraft Country.
