Warner Bros has plans to remake the 1986 musical Little Shop of Horrors from Love Simon director Greg Berlanti. The original 1986 movie was an adaptation of the Broadway play of the same name, loosely based off the Roger Corman horror comedy from the 1950s. Not much has been stated yet about casting, though Scarlett Johansson and Taron Egerton are in talks to potentially play Audrey and Seymour, and Billy Porter confirmed to voice the man eating plant Audrey II. However a new actor has been in talks for a key role, as Knives Out and Captain America actor himself, Chris Evans, might play one of the film’s antagonist, Orin Scrivello.
Scrivello is Audrey’s boyfriend and best known for his profession of being an evil dentist. The 1986 film had comedic actor Steve Martin play the sadistic dentist and, of course, sung one of the film’s most memorable songs. The remake will potentially see Evans reunite with Johansson, as both actors have consistently appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Steve Rogers (Captain America) and Natasha Romanoff (Black Widow).
The casting seems fairly promising, considering that Chris Evans was praised for his performance as one of the antagonists in Knives Out, so him playing an evil dentist could be very enjoyable to watch. The actor has not appeared in a ton of musical roles but, given the transition worked well for other actors in the past, Evans could still have some musical talent within him. Not much is stated about the film’s release, though it is expected to shoot this summer.
