The first trailer has surfaced for the upcoming Sandra Bullock political comedy Our Brand is Crisis. The film, co-starring Billy Bob Thornton (TV’s Fargo) and Zoe Kazan (What If) is slated for its world premiere on Friday at the Toronto International Film Festival.
Bullock (Gravity) plays “Calamity” Jane Bodine, a retired political consultant pressed back into service to assist a contentious presidential campaign in Bolivia. Her arch rival, Pat Candy (Thornton), with whom she has a thorny history, happens to be representing the opposition. The film is an adaptation of sorts of the real-life story behind Rachel Boynton’s 2005 documentary of the same name, detailing the hard fought election between Bolivian incumbent Gonzalo Sánchez de Lozada and socialist candidate Evo Morales.
George Clooney (The Monuments Men) was reportedly eyed for Bullock’s role before it was decided to switch the character to female. Clooney is attached here as a producer, along with Bullock and Clooney’s partner at Smokehouse Pictures, Grant Heslov. David Gordon Green (Pineapple Express) directs from a script by Peter Straughan (The Men Who Stare at Goats). Our Brand is Crisis hits theaters on October 30. Check out the trailer below.
