Check Out the Teaser Trailer for ‘Antebellum’

A trailer has just been released for the upcoming horror movie Antebellum. The trailer does not reveal that much about the movie or its plot, despite showing scenes that seem to take place in two eras: the Confederate South and modern times. It is safe to assume that these Civil Wars scenes are directly related to the film’s title, Antebellum, which means post-war and usually referenced in the context of American history as a time period for the U.S. South directly before the Civil War and abolition of slavery.

Janelle Monáe has been cast in the lead role of Antebellum, with Pitchfork explaining that her character is an author named Veronica Henley. Monáe has previously appeared in award winning movies like Moonlight and Hidden Figures and most recently voiced a dog in the Lady and the Tramp remake movie for the Disney+ streaming service.

Antebellum is going to be the debut feature film for directors Gerard Bush and Christopher Renz. Empire characterizes the movie as being a black horror film in the same vein as Jordan Peele’s Get Out and Us, which makes sense given how both movies and Antebellum are produced by Blackkklansman producer Sean McKittrick

Antebellum is expected to come out in April of 2020.
