Check Out the New ‘Pain and Glory’ Trailer Starring Antonio Banderas, Penelope Cruz

Antonio Banderas stars as Salvador Mallo in the upcoming Sony drama Pain and Glory, which follows film director whose career has taken a turn for the worse and must reflect on the choices that led him to where he is in his life. Throughout the newly-released trailer, we’re given hints at Mallo’s past experiences, most notably his relationships to those dearest to him and in particular his mother, played by Penelope Cruz. Banderas’ character’s childhood and present troubles seem to be woven together with a simple song sung by his mother and his younger self, culminating in Mallo seemingly speaking to the camera in a fourth wall break, giving his thanks to the audience for coming.
Take a look at the trailer below:

Asier Etxeandia, Leonardo Sbaraglia, Julieta Serrano, Raúl Arévalo, and Asier Flores join Banderas and Cruz on the cast, with Pedro Almodovar directing the film and writing its screenplay.
Pain and Glory, which is primarily Spanish-speaking, won Banderas the best actor award when it premiered at the 2019 Cannes International Film Festival earlier this year. It also won the best soundtrack award for its composer Alberto Iglesias. The film will show at the 2019 New York Film Festival and will open in New York and Los Angeles theaters on October 4.
