Channing Tatum to Reunite with ‘21 Jump Street’ Directors for Universal Monster Movie

Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, the duo behind 21 Jump Street and The Lego Movie, are reuniting with Channing Tatum for new monster movie. Sources say that the new project will be a modern-day, tongue-in-cheek thriller inspired by Universal Pictures’ classic monster legacy.

Magic Mike writer Reid Carolin had the original idea for the project and wrote the treatment, and Wes Tooke is writing the script. Lord and Miller are producing under their Lord Miller production banner alongside Tatum, Carolin and Peter Kiernan, who will produce through their Free Association banner.

Tatum is currently filming his directorial debut, Dog, which he co-directed with Carolin. The film will focus on an army ranger and his dog as they embark on a road trip along the Pacific Coast Highway to attend a friend’s funeral. It’s expected to release May 7, 2021. Tatum also recently announced that he’s written a children’s book, The One and Only Sparkella, which is also set to release in May.

Lord and Miller haven’t been credited for their directing since 22 Jump Street in 2014. The two directors worked on the Star Wars spinoff, Solo, but left the project after 4 months of filming due to creative clashes with Lucasfilm. Their new Apple TV series, The Afterparty, which will reunite the pair with Dave Franco, is currently in development.
