The cast of the upcoming movie Book Club: The Next Chapter met Monday night in New York City for the premiere. Some stars were Jane Fonda, Diane Keaton, Mary Steenburgen, and Candice Bergen. The stars and writers discussed the current writer’s strike and encouraged others to write more roles for older actors. Despite their age, director Bill Holderman stated he enjoys seeing these stars on screen and wished they had more opportunities within the industry.
They, to me, they’re some of the most inspiring people on the planet, these four women,” Holderman states. “But it’s also it’s like, they’re great actors. Why wouldn’t you use the talent that we have?
The actresses have also expressed gratitude for the opportunity to continue their passion.

Co-writer to Bill Holderman, Erin Simmons, supported the statement by saying that Book Club’s release reached audiences of all ages, especially older ones. By continuing to write for older actors, there will be more opportunities and also will help raise interest from the older demographics.
Holderman and Simmons also discussed the writer’s strike. The two co-writers hope for a peaceful and easy resolution soon. Jane Fonda showed her support by encouraging others to join the guild and the picket line to support the writers. Simmons ended the conversation with a statement for Hollywood.
Hopefully Hollywood will realize how important writers are, and that’s where it all starts. And we wanna feel supported, and we wanna feel like ideas reign supreme, because they do. … Ideas are all we have. So, hopefully, they conclude the same thing.
