Carey Mulligan Sundance Movie ‘Promising Young Woman’ Will Debut in Theaters for Christmas

A femme thriller Promising Young Woman from Focus Features starring Carey Mulligan made its way into the world premiere at Sundance back in January. It has officially made its way back to the theatrical release calendar for Christmas Day. The original date was set for April 17, but then the pandemic came and pushed all titles back. Finally, something promising about the upcoming holiday season this year.

While most movies are being pushed back into the next year for its release date, Promising Young Woman is taking the gamble and will release it in time for the holidays. Given the theatrical release date, it will now compete against Wonder Woman 1984 on the big screen.

Mulligan plays Cassie, barista and ex-medical student during the day, but a woman who lures men in at night, to get revenge. Hell-bent on revenge over her best friend’s death, she is willing to go to extreme measures to get vengeance owed to her. Bo Burnham, Laverne Cox, Alison Brie, Connie Britton, Jennifer Coolidge, and Molly Shannon also star in the film.

Emerald Fennell (Killing Eve) wrote and directed Promising Young Woman in her feature directorial debut. Rotten Tomatoes rated it with a 92% certified fresh.
