The iconic Laika Studios has finally returned with a brand new movie. The trailer for their upcoming project, Wildwood, just made its debut at the Cannes Film Festival.
Wildwood makes for another fantastical animated installment into Laika’s preexisting catalogue of films. The upcoming Wildwood is crafted completely using stop-motion animation, which has become an indisputable staple of Laika’s style and craftsmanship. Several of their films that have employed this style, such as Coraline and Kubo And The Two Strings, have become animation icons, with both films, along with others of theirs, being nominated for the Oscar for Best Animated Feature.
Since he was born, the young Prue has had an inseparable bond with her baby brother. But when he gets mysteriously kidnapped and brought to an unknown land, Prue goes on a quest beyond anything she could’ve ever imagined, bringing her to a fantastical land, in hopes of saving him and bringing him back home.
Peyton Elizabeth Lee will be voicing Prue, but backing her is a star-studded cast. Other voice actors include Jacob Tremblay, Carey Mulligan, Mahershala Ali, Angela Bassett, Awkwafina, Jake Johnson, Charlie Day, and many others.
Hollywood Reporter notes that it’ll be Laika regular Travis Knight directing Wildwood, which has been in production since 2021. Knight worked with Laika multiple times as a producer, and even directed the aforementioned Kubo. Some of his other works include Bumblebee, and even the upcoming Masters Of The Universe, expected to hit screens June 5th.
Wildwood hits theaters October 23rd. Check out the trailer below.
