British Newcomer Fionn Whitehead Eyed For Christopher Nolan’s ‘Dunkirk’

Newcomer Fionn Whitehead may courted a fan that will forever change the life of the young British actor. Christopher Nolan, reportedly, has eyes on the National Youth Theatre member for one of the leads of his upcoming WWII drama Dunkirk. The film has already attracted the attention of heavyweight thespians Tom Hardy, Kenneth Branagh and Mark Rylance (who just recently defeated Hardy at the 88th Academy Awards for his performance in Steven Spielberg’s Cold War drama Bridge of Spies).

According to The Wrap (who broke the story), no deal has been confirmed and it appears Whitehead may not even have U.S. representation yet, but the actor is said to be Nolan’s top choice for one of the two young leads in the project. Warner Bros., who is distributing Dunkirk has not confirmed anything either. Whitehead only prior screen appearance was in ITV’s three-part horror drama Him. On the same dime, Hardy was hardly a household name when Nolan cast the brooding actor in Inception (2010) and since has become a highly prolific, Oscar-nominated performer.

The film will chronicle the evacuation of Dunkirk during World War II, features a screenplay from Nolan himself and he be produce alongside longtime partner Emma Thomas. Location scouting has already commenced and will be filmed using a mixture of IMAX 65mm and 65mm large-format film photography- Nolan, a vocal film-proponent, also shot parts of his Oscar-winning Interstellar in 70mm.

Dunkirk is slated to hit theaters on July 21, 2017.
