‘Black Adam’ Casts Pierce Brosnan as Dr. Fate

Via The Hollywood Reporterformer Bond and Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again actor Pierce Brosnan has been cast in the anti-hero DC comics movie Black Adam as Kent Nelson aka Dr. Fate. Brosnan is joining film that has been in the works for a whil, and is finally now gaining momentum. The film is written by Rory Haines, Sohrab Noshirvani, and Adam Sztykiel, while it is directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, who wrapped on Jungle Cruise recently.

Dwayne “the Rock” Johnson was cast as the anti-hero/villain Black Adam all the way back in 2014, and has yet to appear in a DC film as the character. Though Zachary Levi’s Shazam! was well-received and successful enough to warrant an eventual meeting of the two arch-rivals, it is still unknown if Levi’s hero will appear in Black Adam.

The details of the plot have been widely kept under wraps, though now with Dr. Fate in the picture, there seems to be a clear hero in the mix, in addition to Aldis Hodge who has been cast as Hawkman.

Dr. Fate is one of the oldest comic book characters yet to have main-stream film success. Fate first appeared in More Fun Comics #55 in 1940. Subsequent appearances in animated shows like Batman the Brave and the Bold and Justice League: Unlimited kept the character in fans’ minds.

While he has only made his live action appearance in Smallville, Dr. Fate is a character with a lot of potential. The character certainly could reach new heights with this movie, especially played by a well-seasoned actor like Pierce Brosnan.

However, who knows how long he will play the character. The 67-year-old Irish actor will be making his superhero debut with this film. Rumors swirled in October 2020 that New Line/DC comics were looking for a Sam Rockwell-type for Dr. Fate, though Brosnan is not exactly that, he is certainly an engaging and fun choice for the character.

Black Adam has no set release date as of now, but with this casting it would not be surprising if the film’s production gets underway at some point this year.
