Ben Whishaw in Talks to Join ‘Mary Poppins Returns’

The Hollywood Reporter exclusively reported that James Bond’s current Q, Ben Whishaw, is in talks to join Rob Marshall’s Mary Poppins sequel, now titled Mary Poppins Returns. Whishaw would be joining Emily Blunt and Lin-Manuel Miranda who are already set to star.

Marshall’s Mary Poppins Returns takes place roughly 25 years after 1964’s original and will also feature the talent of Meryl Streep. Whishaw is in talks to portray the grown-up  version of Michael Banks, a key role in the sequel’s story. Michael, after experiencing a personal loss needs help. The return of his sister Jane sparks a little bit of magic and Mary Poppins (Blunt) returns with Jack (Miranda) to help the Banks family once again.

Mary Poppins Returns will begin shooting in London early 2017. The release date is set for a Christmas release December 25th, 2018. Whishaw’s popularity has grown since starring in the BBC miniseries London Spy and the indie sci-fi romance The Lobster, which starred Colin Farrell.
