‘Bad Dads’ to follow STX’s ‘Bad Moms’

The vulgar comedy Bad Moms debuted July 29th of this year and was written by the writers and directors of The Hangover films, Scott Moore and John Lucas. Globally the film has earned $180 million. According to Deadline, STX Entertainment announced rather than creating a sequel to Bad Moms they would rather create more content that comes out of the “Bad” brand. This is because sequels tend to gross more than 60% less than their predecessors. Thus, Bad Dads was born.

This spin off will debut July 14, 2017. Cast will be revealed within the next weeks as production starts. STX is also plans to release more outlets of the “Bad” brand including, a “series of film spinoffs, reality TV show, short form digital content (which could take the shape of YouTube videos, Snapchats, Live Streams etc.), and a robust consumer products program.” For their debut weekend next year, Bad Dads will go up against 20th Century Fox’s sequel to their version of Planet of the Apes, a saga which started in 1968. The latest installment which will come out the same time as Bad Dads is entitled, War For the Planet of the Apes

Bad Moms, this past summer’s surprise sleeper hit, centered around stressed mothers who band together and rebel against conventional norms. Mila Kunis, Kristen Bell and Kathryn Hahn headlined.
