After gaining success off of their new film adaptation of the Mean Girls stage play, husband and wife directors Arturo Perez Jr. and Samantha Jayne are opening up an acting camp for the underserved youth of Los Angeles. The camp will run over the summer.
Dubbed the Yes Bus Acting Camp, the program will be free of charge for those interested. Candidates must be between the ages of 14-17 and submit a statement about their desire to participate, along with a monologue between one and three minutes long. In addition to being responsible for transportation to and from the camp, Perez and Jayne will also cover the program’s costs.
As the Hollywood Reporter points out, the program’s namesake came from the ideals that Perez and Jayne hold in high regard: affirmative collaboration. Applications are now open and will remain open until June 5th.
“Like Janis says in the opening of our movie, ‘It’s not easy making a movie,’ but we also know that it’s not easy getting the confidence to just go for it as an actor, either,” Samantha Jayne had to say.
“Not everyone in L.A. has the same opportunities, so we just want to help level the playing field a little bit,” Perez added to the statement.
The program will be held from August 5th until August 16th. The first week will center around rehearsals, acting, and writing classes, while the second will be dedicated to performances.
