The 1980’s were a wonderful time for big, burly protagonists blasting and punching through hundreds of cronies in crazy settings like a giant skyscraper or in the middle of the jungle. Kung Fury, a 2015 kickstarted short film, was one of the most nostalgia-filled, epic comedy shorts that paid homage to the 80’s action-comedy films. The film is now considered a cult classic, and it is officially receiving a feature adaptation. Arnold Schwarzenegger has been connected to join the cast that already include Michael Fassbender, according to multiple sources. Schwarzenegger is a perfect fit for the type of film that Kung Fury looks to be, being a prominent figure in 1980’s action films.
Kung Fury looks to continue where the previous short film left off, with Kung Fury, the greatest damn cop of all time, continuing his work in Miami in 1985. He was the leader of the Thundercops, a team created Fury to defend space and time and defeat Adolf Hitler, but after a mishap where one of the team passes away, he decides to disband the group. Unfortunately, a mysterious evil teams up with Hitler to find the most powerful weapon of all time, which prompts Kung Fury to travel through time and space to save his friends and the world.
Schwarzenegger will be joined by Michael Fassbender (playing Kung Fury) and David Hasselhoff. David Sandberg, the original director of the short, will return to direct. The film is set to begin filming sometime in the summer.
