Antonio Banderas Joins ‘Indiana Jones 5’

According to Deadline, Oscar-nominated Antonio Banderas was announced to be Harrison Ford’s newest co-star in the next installment of the Indiana Jones franchise. Banderas has just recently closed deal to join the film to star alongside Ford and an all-star cast that includes Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Mads Mikkelsen, Boyd Holbrook, and Shaunette Renée Wilson. The film also marks another major franchise for international star Banderas.

Production is currently underway, and the film is set for release on July 29, 2022. Details of the plot are still under wraps for what adventures await Jones, as well as who Banderas’ character will be.

Banderas has a lineup of major properties and possible franchises starting with The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard. He recently earned his first Oscar nomination for Pain and Glory. Production for Sony’s Uncharted also ended, which features Banderas and stars Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg. He is also returning to star in the DreamWorks Animation sequel Puss in Boots: The Last Wish. His next feature will be starring opposite Penelope Cruz in the Spanish comedy Official Competition.

This international actor is far from finished with broadening his range of work. Who will he play in Indiana Jones, an ally to our favorite archaeologist or a villain? We’ll have to wait and find out.
