‘Ant-Man And The Wasp: Quantumania’ Scores Second-Lowest Rating For An MCU Film On Rotten Tomatoes

Ant-Man is not looking too hot in the new Quantumania film (in theaters February 17th), with a 63% approval rate from critics. Although the score is still fluctuating due to more critics’ reviews, the third installment to the franchise sits at 55% on Rotten Tomatoes. This makes it the second-lowest score of all the MCU films, falling just behind 2021’s Eternals.

After the events of Endgame, returning director Peyton Reed takes the audience and characters into the sub-atomic dimension of the Quantum Realm, where Janet van Dyne (Michelle Pfeiffer) was stuck for 30 years. There the Ant-Family finds that time-master Kang the Conqueror (Jonathan Majors) has dominion over time and the multiverse.

ComicBook critic Jenna Anderson wrote Quantumania “is not only the third ‘act’ in the almost decade-long Marvel Cinematic Universe journey of Ant-Man, but it is a forecast of what’s on the horizon — kicking off Phase 5 of the franchise’s storytelling, and fully teeing up its biggest Big Bad yet, Kang the Conqueror (Jonathan Majors). It would be a lot to ask any of Marvel’s existing superhero franchises to carry that latter burden, but in the hands of Quantumania, it proves to be a fun challenge in nearly every way. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is an eccentric and essential spectacle, further expanding the possibilities of what the MCU’s tentpole projects can still be capable of.”

Other reviews liked Major’s role, and one compared the film to Star Wars. “The weird world of the Quantum Realm is “A Bug’s Life-meets-Return of the Jedi,” they wrote.
