Anna Kendrick in Talks to Join ‘Into the Woods’

Academy and Tony Award nominee Anna Kendrick may be lined up for another project in her ever-busy, always-growing schedule. The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that the 27-year old actress is in talks to take on the role of Cinderella in the upcoming Into the Woods.

Kendrick would be joining a proposed star-studded cast that includes Meryl Streep, Johnny Depp, Chris Pine, Jake Gyllenhaal, James Corden, Emily Blunt, Tracy Ullman and Christine Baranski.  The Cinderella role would put Kendrick opposite of Pine, who has signed on to play a prince in the film.

Not to be confused with the live-version adaptation of Cinderella starring Lily James, Disney’s film version of the celebrated musical Into the Woods will be directed by Rob Marshall.  Though best known for helming Chicago, Marshall stepped into Disney territory for 2011’s Pirates of the Caribbean: On stranger Tides.  Tony and Pulitzer Prize-winning writer James Lapine is behind the screenplay based on his own book for the 1988 musical scored by Stephen Sondheim.

As far as her musical talent goes, Kendrick sang in last year’s Pitch Perfect and has been acting in Broadway musicals from a young age. She’s won several awards, most notably for her role in High Society at age 12.

Into the Woods is expected to begin filming in London this September and is targeting a December 25, 2014 release date.
