‘American Honey’ Win Big at 2016 British Independent Film Awards

The 2016 British Independent Film Awards were feeling the American spirit this year as Andrea Arnold’s American Honey swept many of the major categories at the their annual best of the year ceremony. The film – which won the Jury Prize at this year’s Cannes Film Festival and was released stateside courtesy of A24 Films, took top honors winning Best Film, Best Director, Best Achievement in Craft as well as the Best Actress prize for newcomer Sasha Lane

Other films that performed will included Ken Loach’s I, Daniel Blake (the winner of the Palme d’Or at Cannes), which took the Best Actor trophy for David Johns’ performance as well the Under the Shadow (which earned three prizes). Also of note, Barry Jenkins’ acclaimed Moonlight won the Best International Independent Film award.

  • BREAKTHROUGH PRODUCER: Camille Gatin, The Girl with All the Gifts
  • DEBUT SCREENWRITER: Rachel Tunnard, Adult Life Skills
  • DISCOVERY AWARD: The Greasy Strangler
