Alec Baldwin Film ‘Rust’ To Resume Production This Week

Rust Movie Productions announced that Rust’s principal photography is set to resume Thursday at Yellowstone Film Ranch. This announcement comes after a wrongful death lawsuit against the production company and Baldwin and charges of involuntary manslaughter against Baldwin and armorer Hannah Gutierrez Reed.

The shooting halted in 2021 after Baldwin’s prop gun allegedly accidentally fired and hit cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and director Joel Souza with live ammunition. While Souza survived with serious injuries, Hutchins died from the misfire. According to her widower Matthew Hutchins, he and Baldwin came to an undisclosed settlement in October following the wrongful death suit. Rust can finish filming, while Matthew will serve as an executive producer.

At the same time, Baldwin and Gutirriez have been facing charges of involuntary manslaughter since January. In February, both parties pleaded “not guilty” to the incident and could have their sentences shortened if convicted by removing the firearm enhancement charges. While there is currently no news about the verdict, the dropped payments could result in five years reduced from their potential sentences. Baldwin is on personal recognizance, meaning he will appear in court when called upon.

A source close to the production reveals that the output has only 20-25 shooting days left. Out of respect for Hutchins, the head also states that the scene in the church where Hutchins was shot will not be reshot and has been removed entirely from the story.
