Action Sequence from ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’ Includes New Comic Book Villain

Readers of comic books may be pleased to know the titular Winter Soldier will not be the only recognizable bad guy appearing in the upcoming Captain America sequel. In a clip from the film – brought to us by twitch – Cap (Chris Evans), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), and a team of S.H.I.E.L.D. commandos storm a vessel commandeered by pirates – the modern day kind; time travel hasn’t been introduced into this film series, yet. The pirates are led by Georges Batroc, who comic book fans probably know better as Batroc the Leaper.

Batroc the Leaper vs. Captain America

In comics the character is a French mercenary known for his high-flying kicks, martial arts expertise, and purple spandex. The film version of Batroc, though only seen briefly in this clip, retains his status as a mercenary and a Frenchman. The fact that he’s played by MMA fighter Georges St-Pierre seems to indicate that he’ll still be able to go toe-to-toe with the Cap. Yes, his costume isn’t nearly as  flamboyant compared to the comic version, but the brighter color scheme will at least serve as a nice contrast to the Winter Soldier’s mostly black outfit.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier comes to theaters April 4th as the latest in the Marvel Studios film series.
