A24’s ‘Lady Bird’ Becomes Their Highest Grossing Domestic Film Just Over ‘Moonlight’

A24 has become one of the quickest growing and most popular production companies of this decade, producing some of the most experimental and interesting films, including 2015’s Room and 2016’s Best Feature MoonlightOne of their newest films, Lady Birdhas been killing it at the box office, and has officially become the production company’s most profitable film in the United States. Greta Gerwig’s Lady Bird has currently made $28 million in under two months while Moonlight made around $27 million during its domestic box office, according to Indiewire.

Moonlight currently holds the international box office record for the company, but Lady Bird has yet to release worldwide. It will be interesting to see how Lady Bird will do internationally. Lady Bird has been breaking records throughout its whole release, becoming the highest rated film on Rotten Tomatoes, holding a 100% from over 200 different reviewers until one stickler lowered the average. It has already been considered for Best Feature, Best Actress, and Best Supporting Actress at the Golden Globes.

A24 has another big contender at the Oscars in the new comedy The Disaster Artist and already has a solid 2018 lineup with five films already announced with likely more films to be released in the new year. We are excited to see how A24’s films will fare during the Oscars and the SAG awards.
