2015 Golden Globes – The Winners

We’ve had a number of critics groups announce their choices for the best films, performances, and the like of 2014’s crop of features, but tonight brought the first of the heavy hitters. Once again hosted by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler (flawlessly), the Golden Globes are always a bit of an adventure given their split of dramatic and comedic fare, not to mention the at times finicky tastes of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (the body of critics that votes on the Golden Globes), but tonight’s festivities went by with, well, very few surprises.

Despite a number of highly competitive categories, there were only two choices that seemed to dethrone the presumptive front runners. In the Animated Feature category, How to Train Your Dragon 2 beat out a field that included widely acclaimed films The LEGO Movie and The Boxtrolls, while Wes Anderson and The Grand Budapest Hotel shook off a defeat to Birdman in the screenplay category to capture Best Picture (Musical or Comedy) of the aforementioned Alejandro Innaritu work.
