Watch the Trailer for the Indie Zombie Flick ‘Wyrmwood’

From Australian filmmaker brothers Kiah and Tristan Roache-Turner comes the zombie-apocalypse movie Wyrmwood. First shown at film festivals throughout last year, this movie is now scheduled for a U.S. release next month, to be distributed by IFC films. As seen in the trailer, there’s always a new twist that can be applied to the well-tread zombie-apocalypse genre.

With zombies that give off gasoline fumes and an un-infected girl who can control the zombies, the Roache-Turner brothers look to give the zombie genre new life. Starring Australian actors Jay Gallagher, Bianca Bradey, Leon Burchill, and Luke McKenzie, the movie follows the protagonist Barry (Gallagher) as he fights his way through zombie hoards to save his sister Brooke (Bradey). On the way, as seen in the trailer, they discover some traits about zombies unseen in other movies, particularly their ability to produce gasoline, which then fuels Barry’s quest across the zombie-infested countryside. Also featuring some experimentation on the infected zombies, we see Brooke develop the ability to telepathically control and summon zombies when needed, mostly to escape from the medical facility where she was being held.

This movie was shown across the film festival circuit, from the Fantastic Fest, the Toronto After Dark Film Festival, the Busan International Film Festival, to the SITGES and Stockholm Film Festival. This Australian flick did well during this circuit and is now scheduled for wide release in the United States this year.

Readers can also view a teaser trailer of the film that mxdwn covered last September, before Wyrmwood began its festival run. Wyrmwood will be released in U.S. theaters on February 13th.
