Following 2023’s Evil Dead Rise, which became the highest-grossing entry in the Evil Dead franchise, writer/director Lee Cronin will return to cinemas with a new tale of terror. Cronin’s take on The Mummy will serve as an “audacious and twisted retelling” on the classic horror story, according to the film’s official description. The first full trailer was just released for the Warner Bros.’ New Line Cinema distribution, and promises more ancient dread and body horror that infects a family unit, akin to themes seen in Evil Dead Rise. The trailer sees parents played by Jack Reynor (Midsommar) and Spanish actress Laia Costa as they are reunited after several years with their missing daughter Katie.
“It’s very important that you prepare yourselves for what you are about to see,” a medical professional warns the couple before they see Katie again for the first time. “No sudden moves, no loud noises.” Katie appears in a grotesque and deformed state as it is revealed she was discovered in a “3,000-year-old sarcophagus”.
Katie can later be seen in the trailer moving abnormally and inflicting violence and terror on herself and her family members as supernatural elements are clearly at play. “Don’t worry, Grandma. It’s fun to be dead,” the young girl utters in a demonic cadence.
The Mummy is also a joint project from Jason Blum’s Blumhouse and James Wan’s Atomic Monster banners, respectively. The trailer highlights several moments of fear and mystery as Katie’s story begs to be unwrapped. The film will release in theaters and IMAX on April 17, 2026. Watch the full trailer below.
