With so much on his plate already, Kevin Spacey lands a role in the upcoming Black Label Media drama, Rebel in the Rye. The film follows the life of J.D. Salinger, author of the renowned novel The Catcher in the Rye, and the years revolving around the development of that book. Nicholas Hoult (Mad Max: Fury Road, X-Men: Days of Future Past) stars as the aforementioned Salinger while Spacey will play Whit Burnett, a Columbia professor who became a mentor to the young author, pushing him to enhance his storytelling capabilities.
Spacey seems to be quite the busy man lately and not only talent wise. His company Trigger Street Productions was recently acquired by Relativity Media appointing him and Dana Brunetti chairman and president. Relativity hopes to remove itself from it’s struggling stature with the help of the Oscar winning actor and fellow producer. Acting wise, Spacey will play Richard Nixon in this years’ Elvis & Nixon opposite Michael Shannon who plays Elvis.
Danny Strong the executive producer of the hit television series Empire, will serve as director and writer of the screenplay, an adaptation of the biography JD Salinger: A Life by Kenneth Slawenski.
Black Label Media hopes to create another hit following the success of last years gritty and intense cartel crime drama Sicario. Their next feature is Demolition, directed by Jean-Marc Vallee while starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Naomi Watts.
House of Cards, the much anticipated Netflix series starring Kevin Spacey will be available to view on March 4th.
