It’s a typical battle of old versus new when the cavemen’s land is overrun with new inhabitants from the age of bronze.
Liongate’s Early Man features the voice talents of Eddie Redmayne as Dug, caveman with big dreams of doing more than just hunting rabbits. He attempts to convince Chief Bobnar (Timothy Spall) to hunt something bigger, but no change, until the bronze age takes over and Lord Nooth (Tom Hiddleston) challenges the cavemen to a little game of football in exchange for living in the valley, but there’s one catch they’ve never played. That’s where Goona (Maisie Williams) comes in; she’s an outcast from the bronze inhabitants who isn’t allowed to play because of being a girl. Now it is up to her with the help of the dreamer, Dug, to turn these cavemen into the next football stars in an effort to save their home.
Early Man is a comedy for all ages with a message of learning to work together as being pivotal to how one survives and conquers. It also contains several adult-themed jokes that kids may not get in the same way, but nonetheless will be entertained just as well. In addition, fans of stop-motion animation will be thrilled to see the art in Nick Park’s feature film as the details and imagery make the characters really come to life in the same standard as the previous movies.
Verdict: 5 out of 5
Early Man will have audiences going on an adventure of their ancestors in a way that may not be all to accurate, but will give them a little fun and history as they find themselves routing for the cavemen. It is also a movie about the true meaning of working together as team and family in order to save what is theirs.
Definitely a movie for the young and young at heart.
