Zendaya Joins Cast of ‘The Greatest Showman on Earth’ Musical

Multi-hyphenate artist Zendaya (singer, dancer, actress, social media master) is following up her monumental casting in Spider-Man: Homecoming with new role in Fox’s The Greatest Showman on Earth musical, according to Deadline. Michelle Williams (Blue Valentine) is in talks to star alongside Hugh Jackman (Les Miserables) and Zac Efron (Hairspray). Although nine years his junior, Zendaya will be playing Efron’s girlfriend in the film.

The story will follow the true story of P.T. Barnum, founder of the famous travelling Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus. It is unclear the exact roles that Efron and Zendaya will have, however, it would be interesting to see the actress take her Disney dancing skills from Shake it Up onto a larger stage. Visual effects artist Michael Gracey (Ned Kelly) is directing as his first feature film with a script written by Michael Arndt (Little Miss Sunshine, Star Wars: The Force Awakens).

Zendaya began her career on the Disney channel, first starring alongside Bella Thorne (The Duff) in Shake it Up, and then on her own in KC Undercover. She has since tackled a singing career (with singles appearing on the Billboard Hot 100 chart) and is frequently in the news as a part of the fashion world. Zendaya has returned to acting, however, in a big way with two major studio movies now in the pipeline.
