Zachary Levi To Become The DC Cinematic Universe’s Newest Hero In ‘Shazam!’

Captain Marvel, known as Shazam nowadays to not be mistaken for DC’s rival company, has been one of the longest running DC superheroes, making his debut in 1939. He has, however, been lost in time, with many people not being able to recognize his persona versus characters like Superman and Batman. DC and New Line have decided to bring the popular character to the big screen and have officially signed on an actor with strong talents in the art of humor to take on the role of Shazam. Zachary Levi, the man behind the titular character Chuck Bartowski from the TV show Chuck, will be playing as Shazam in the new film adaptation titled Shazam!, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Shazam focuses on a child, Billy Batson, who was given the powers of six immortals by a character named the Wizard. The powers are granted to him whenever he shouts the name of the wizard: Shazam! The young boy has yet to be cast.

David Sandberg, the director behind horror hits Lights Out and Annabelle: Creationhas been selected to direct. He has a relationship with New Line, the production company that produced Sandberg’s previous films, making him an apt choice. Henry Gayden and Darren Lemke will pen the script. The release date has not been officially set, but New Line is attempting a 2019 release.

Daniel Jungenberg: Daniel Jungenberg is a lover of all kinds of entertainments: Video games, comics, and especially movies. He currently resides in Orange County, California, in hopes of becoming closer and eventually working in the animation and film industries he grew to love as a child and now.
