With Youtube quickly becoming a platform for films and TV with Youtube Red, many of the content creators have tried their hands at acting, writing, and directing. Anna Akana, an extremely popular Youtuber with over 2 million subscribers, has officially joined the cast of Go Back to China, first reported by Variety. Akana has featured in quite a few different films and television shows for Youtube Red, and is currently sitting on four different projects for the upcoming year.

Go Back to China will focus on Akana’s character who is young party girl who burns all of her trust fund on a variety of fairly pointless nonessentials. Her father finds out about her spending habits and sends her back to China to join the family business, making her learn the essential of working. As the young woman returns to China and begins her employment at the toy business, she begins to understand her weaknesses and starts to work on her distant relationship with her family.

Akana will be accompanied by a solid cast including Richard Ng as the father, Kelly Hu as the mother, and Lynn Chen as the half-sister. Emily Ting will be directing and will most likely be writing the script for the film as well. The film is set to begin filming in Shenzhen and Hong Kong sometime in the spring.
