‘Wonka’ Leads First Weekend Of 2024 With $16 Million Domestically; ‘Night Swim’ Earns $12.5 Million On First Weekend

2024 has officially settled in. Heading into the first weekend of the year, Night Swim takes its first dip while Wonka reigns supreme at the box office.

Wonka is the go-to flick for families over the holiday weekend, looking to take in $15-$16 million this weekend stateside. Headlined by Timothée Chalamet, the film serves as an origin story for its namesake, Willy Wonka, portrayed by Gene Wilder in the original flick. By the end of this weekend, Wonka is looking to break $165 million domestically.

The newest picture from Blumhouse, Night Swim, is looking to come in at $12.5 million in its first weekend. As the Hollywood Reporter points out, this would put it slightly above its initial tracking, even with the lackluster reviews surrounding it.

Despite this, it still comes up short on M3GAN, the Blumhouse flick about a killer doll, which was released last year to $30.4 million on its first weekend.

Migration is looking to fly into third placebut the race between that, Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom, and Anyone But You is a close one. Migration is on track for about $11 million through the weekend, surpassing $78 million by Sunday.

Aquaman, while still falling flat compared to its predecessor, is looking to take in about $10.4 million this weekend, but that won’t be enough to push its total past $100 million stateside. The film has fared far better overseas but will only end the weekend at about $99 million for its domestic total.

Anyone But You rounds out the top five, looking at a three-day total of about $9.45 million.
