‘Wonder Woman 1984’ To Be Released Simultaneously on HBO Max and in Theaters

In a bold move to attempt to accommodate as many viewers as possible, Warner Bros made a huge announcement to their now biggest tent pole release of the year. As Wonder Woman 1984 has garnered a ton of attention due to how it has been constantly delayed while still maintaining a goal to be released theatrically. Now, the film has been announced that it will be released simultaneously Theaters and Streaming exclusively on HBO Max.

The announcement was made by the film’s director Patty Jenkins on twitter as she made a post stating that her and Warner Bros want to help bring joy to fans. “Watch it in Theaters, Where it is made safe to do so and available in the safety of your own home on HBO Max!” she stated in the post as the film will be release by both means on Christmas Day. While many are still debating the safety of theaters with COVID cases rising, this decision was likely made to help accommodate theaters as they have been struggling to stay afloat since the Pandemic.

It is assuring that Warner Bros is giving this option to fans, both who still want to experience it in theaters and those who want to watch it in the safety of their own home. Though it could also be a back up plan for if theaters do end up closing again due to COVID. Regardless, this will be a big determining factor for movie theaters and streaming going forward with such a big change in release. Only a matter of time till we see more of the same later on.

Wonder Woman 1984 is set for release December 25th 2020.

Ryan Pineda: When it comes to film, animation, video games and other mediums, I can discuss for hours about how much on why certain films and animated media made me the person I am today. I adore the artistic merit that comes from a lot of pop-culture media and will definitely love to have a conversation about favorite movies any day! I have graduated in 2017 with a BA in Film and Television at the University of Arizona. Been passionate about writing about films due to always having an interesting outlook on the medium. Will always see a film and will definitely be sure to recommend it to someone that I know for a fact would love that movie. Not only that but will also give reasons for why I think that film did or did not work as a movie, and the same can go for other pieces of media like television, video games and especially animated projects.
