In Wonder Woman 1984’s sophomore weekend at the U.S. Box Office, the superhero flick picked up another $5.5 million, bringing its global total to $118.5 million. Domestically the film has earned a total of just $28.5 million.
After earning $16.7 million in its first weekend, this past weekend is being seen as a disappointing slump for the highly-anticipated DC film with budget of $200 million. HBO Max didn’t release specific numbers regarding the film’s streaming performance, but WarnerMedia Direct-to-Consumer Executive Vice President and General Manager, Andy Forssell released a short statement regarding the sequel’s presence on the platform.
“Wonder Woman 1984 broke records and exceeded our expectations across all of our key viewing and subscriber metrics in its first 24 hours on the service, and the interest and momentum we’re seeing indicates this will likely continue well beyond the weekend,” Forssell said. “During these very difficult times, it was nice to give families the option of enjoying this uplifting film at home, where theater viewing wasn’t an option.”
It was recently announced that a 3rd Wonder Woman film was already in the works with Patty Jenkins and Gal Gadot returning, sign that Diana Prince is playing a vital part in the growth of Warner Bros. DC Cinematic Universe. Wonder Woman 1984 is currently available to watch on HBO Max and in theaters.
