A new documentary is set to be released by Le Ly Hayslip and Thomas Hayslip. The subject of the documentary will surround Vietnamese women who saw combat during the Vietnam War.
Le Ly Hayslip and Thomas Hayslip, a mother and son duo, are both working on the film as producers. Directing the documentary, dubbed Woman I Phu Nu, are Lacie D. Mackey and Linh Dan Nguyen Phan. As Variety reports, the documentary will not only tackle women who were directly involved with the Vietnam War but the generation that followed them who had to carry the experiences of those that came before.
Le Ly Hayslip is a prolific author with multiple books under her belt, but her most well-known is When Heaven And Earth Changed Places, a memoir about her childhood and growing up during the conflict in Vietnam. Her son, Thomas Hayslip, works in the film industry as a production manager. Some of his credits from his expansive résumé include the first three Pirates Of The Caribbean films, The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises, as well as Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer.
The documentary will include author Phan Thanh Hao, former POW Nam Lan, and former espionage expert Tam Thoa. A group of volunteers from the Ho Chi Minh Trials will also be in the documentary, alongside Le Ly Hayslip herself. Director Mackey has also been credited for work on Jurassic World: Fallen Knight and Mission: Impossible- Rogue Nation, and also has an upcoming directorial credit with Our American Dream, about a Vietnamese immigrant in America. The film’s other director, Lin Dan Nguyen Phan has worked on several short films, such as Paper Thin and Children Of Dust.
