Willem Dafoe Signs on to Crime Thriller ‘Motherless Brooklyn’

Willem Dafoe has quite the busy schedule ahead of him. He will be featuring in projects ranging from the DC Universe to movie on Vincent van Gogh. Now, he’s officially signed on to another film, Motherless Brooklyn, and will be working with actor Edward Norton on the movie, according to Deadline.

Motherless Brooklyn is originally a 1999 book by Jonathan Lethem that focuses on a detective of a ragtag group called the Minna Men, led by Frank Minna. Unfortunately, Frank is murdered by some shady men, and it is up to the protagonist to discover who murdered his mentor and employer. This leads our main character to a bar where he meets a young woman who is protesting a corporation that is aiming to buy up a bunch of neighborhoods they have deemed slums to create an expressway for their company. How does the leader of the company correlate to the death of Frank Minna?

Willem Dafoe will play the brother of the company’s big developer named Paul, who has been left broken by the iron fist of his sibling. Norton will be playing the main character, who has Tourette Syndrome, which is explored in the book with abstract writing. How that will translate to film will quite interesting. Norton is also directing, adapting the book, and producing the movie through his company. There is no current release date for the film.
