Following a deal with Netflix that will see the release of his film Eurovision, Will Ferrell is not quite finished with the streaming service just yet. The longtime comic actor will be collaborating with Netflix on an upcoming adaptation of the successful documentary The Legend of Cocaine Island, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Ferrell is expected to produce the film under his Gloria Sanchez Productions banner alongside Jessica Elbaum of Hustlers and David Permut.
The Legend of Cocaine Island first premiered at the 2018 Tribeca Film Festival and saw its Netflix debut in March. The documentary follows a local business owner and father who discovers the myth of a hidden stash of cocaine worth $2 million somewhere in the Caribbean. Hit hard by the Great Recession, the man organizes a squad of minions to unravel the mystery of the treasured cocaine, during which they encounter many hilarious scenarios on their adventure.
Peter Steinfeld will be tasked with writing the film’s screenplay while Theo Love, who directed its source material, will accompany Bryan Storkel as executive producers. Ferrell can be seen next in the upcoming comedy-drama Downhill, which is a remake of the Swedish film Force Majeure and will see its premiere at Sundance Film Festival. The film is expected to release on Valentine’s Day, 2020.
