Weekly Trailer Roundup – 9/21/13 thru 9/27/13

Welcome to the Weekly Trailer Roundup, where we count down the top five trailers released in the past week, “top” being defined any way we want to at the moment…exciting, ridiculous, best, worst…

These are the trailers that, for one reason or another, you should be paying attention to.

After a two week hiatus, the weekly trailer roundup is back! No, we won’t be catching up on those missed weeks. Then again, we don’t need to. There were plenty of great trailers that came out this week.

Honorable Mention – Avengers: Age of Ultron Comic-Con Teaser

Comic-Con is has come and gone (a few months ago now), but we’re just now getting a glimpse at some of the footage shown there. There’s really not much to this trailer, but, hey, Avengers right? Check out some of our previous coverage if you want a more in-depth look at what might be going in in the film.

#5 – Sunlight Jr. Theatrical Trailer

There’s a decent chance this proves to be an overly sentimental movie, but you could do worse than Naomi Watts and Matt Dillon – provided you can believe Naomi Watts works as a gas station attendant.

#4 – Need For Speed Theatrical Trailer

Hey, look! A Fast & Furious clone! Honestly, I wish Aaron Paul’s first shot out of the Breaking Bad gate (ok, yes, he’s been in a couple minor features like Smashed) wasn’t something that looks so derivative. At least the cars are pretty, and we do have Hellion and Exodus to look forward to.

#3 – The Motel Life Theatrical Trailer

Something tells me this trailer is a little more cohesive than the final film will be, but that doesn’t stop it from being a good one. Emile Hirsch is actually putting together a filmography that’s nothing to sneeze at, and he seems to be the go-to indie-vagrant young adult these days (following films like Into the Wild and Prince Avalanche). He’ll also appear in the much more manly role of a Navy SEAL at the end of the year.

#2 – Frozen Theatrical Trailer

While Pixar is arguably on the downswing as of late, Disney’s other animation team is definitively on the up. Wreck-It Ralph and Tangled have proved that they can capture the Disney magic all on their own. Frozen seems to be channeling much of the charm of the latter of those two, in particular.

#1 – Dom Hemingway UK Trailer

Quite the opposite of the #2 film, Dom Hemingway is luxuriously debauched. And I’ll be damned if it doesn’t look like a lot of fun. It’s hard to call the premise unique, but execution appears to be top notch, capped by a grand performance from Jude Law.
