The Mexican box-office comedy hit Nosotros Los Nobles (We Are the Nobles) is getting an English-language feature film on Netflix. Chris Columbus, Michael Barnathan and Mark Radcliffe will produce for 26th Street Pictures which is part of their deal with Netflix.
The original film was released in 2013 and was directed and co-written by Gaz Alazraki. Nosotros Los Nobles follows three spoiled children and their self-made rich father who threatens to cut his children off, and forces them to get job. Since its release, Nosotros Los Nobles has been the second-highest grossing local film in Mexico with $26.2M, just behind Eugenio Derbez’s Instructions Not Included which grossed $46.1M. Alazraki will also produce the new English-language version with Guido Rud’s FilmSharks executive producing.
Nosotros Los Nobles was also the inspiration for Netflix’s first Mexican original series Club de Cuervos. The original movie is based on the play El Gran Calavera written by Adolfo Torrado and stars Gonzalo Vega, Luis Gerardo Mendez, Karla Souza and Juan Pablo Gil.
This won’t be Columbus’ first foreign-language English reboot, as he directed, produced and adapted the French movie Neuf mois into the 1995 Hugh Grant-Julianne Moore romantic comedy Nine Months which grossed over $138.5M.
