The trailer for 20th Century Fox’s Love, Simon has just dropped, giving audiences a look at the film, which tells the story of a gay young man who understands his identity and has yet to come out, as well as his romantic feelings towards someone with whom he is corresponding online.
In the past few years, there has been more and more willingness in Hollywood to portray LGBTQ+ storylines as narratives worth creating. Though of course there have always been LGBTQ+ artists creating films and television shows who paved the way for current representations in media, the growing positive audience response to these stories has become evident, especially after Barry Jenkins’ masterpiece, Moonlight, won the Oscar for best picture last year. Call Me by Your Name, another recent movie centering around a gay character, has also received plenty of critical acclaim. Like Moonlight was adapted from a play, Love, Simon will gather its source material from Becky Albertalli’s book of the same name.
Love, Simon will star Nick Robinson (Jurassic World) as the titular Simon. He will act alongside established actress Jennifer Garner (Juno), Katherine Langford (Imperfect Quadrant), Josh Duhamel (Transformers: Dark of the Moon), Alexandra Shipp (X-Men: Apocalypse), and Tony Hale (Arrested Development).

Love, Simon will reach theaters next year on March 16th.
