Warner Bros to Create Animated Film Based on ‘Batman Beyond’

After the success of Sony’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, comic book and animation fans are curious to see if any other studio will create another big animated superhero movie in the vein of that. Luckily, Warner Brothers with their recognition of creating some incredibly popular DC animated films are taking a shot at this possible new trend. A new movie based on Batman Beyond is said to be in production at Warner Brothers with a 2022 release at this moment.

The series of Batman Beyond takes place in the future with a retired Bruce Wayne handing the mantle over to Terry McGinnis to fulfill the role as a younger Batman. The character started out in an animated television series in 1999 as a follow up to the critically acclaimed Batman the Animated Series prior, and since then, the character has appeared in various comics. The film has good potential to bring the character back into the consciousness of longtime Batman fans.

Not much is known about the film, however, a few short production art pieces were leaked to reddit. This includes some character design sheets of Terry McGinnis alongside a picture of him looking at various outfits very similar to Into the Spider-Verse‘s outfit showcase. In the second photo, costumes included are Batman, Nightwing, Batgirl and Robin. Fans debated about a Batman Beyond movie happening for quite some time now, even possibly having that be the return of Michael Keaton playing as the cape crusader. While it is only an animated version, there is definitely a possibility this is the comeback for Keaton which Batman fans waited years for, unless Kevin Conroy voices him in this movie, also satisfying fans.

Ryan Pineda: When it comes to film, animation, video games and other mediums, I can discuss for hours about how much on why certain films and animated media made me the person I am today. I adore the artistic merit that comes from a lot of pop-culture media and will definitely love to have a conversation about favorite movies any day! I have graduated in 2017 with a BA in Film and Television at the University of Arizona. Been passionate about writing about films due to always having an interesting outlook on the medium. Will always see a film and will definitely be sure to recommend it to someone that I know for a fact would love that movie. Not only that but will also give reasons for why I think that film did or did not work as a movie, and the same can go for other pieces of media like television, video games and especially animated projects.
