Warner Bros. Sets Gerard Johnstone to Do Re-Writes on ‘Justice League Dark’ Script

Justice League Dark is coming quickly back into the Warner Bros. fold with a new writer set to polish the previously flawed script. According to Deadline, Gerard Johnstone will be taking a crack at the screenplay. It’s original version reportedly didn’t wow the studio in presentations, leading to a change of direction. According to reports, Johnstone won the studio over with his pitch, but was especially attractive for his previous work on the film Housebound (2014).

Justice League Dark will be a more moody take on the DC superheroes, spotlighting such characters as John Constantine, Swamp Thing, Deadman, Zatanna, and Etrigan the Demon. The next battle for the film will be in finding a director. Guillermo del Toro was originally set to helm, however, he stepped out of the project early on. Then, Doug Liman took the reigns, but left to direct Chaos Walking. Andy Muschietti was rumored to direct for a moment until recently, when early reactions of his film It emerged overwhelmingly positive. Muschietti will likely now be wrapped up in sequel plans for that film.

While Justice League Dark is certainly not out of the woods yet, Warner Bros. likely have renewed hope in the project with Johnstone’s new fresh voice to add to the film’s vision.
