Warner Bros. chairman Toby Emmerich has been with the company since 2017, but sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that Emmerich might be looking for new job with Netflix. Most of this story is filled with rumors and conjecture on Emmerich’s interest and overall connection to Netflix. The main source here says that David Geffen, one of the founders of DreamWorks, made a call to Netflix inquiring on a possible job for Emmerich.
His contract is up in about a year and a half, and he could look for other options. The screenwriter turned chairman was president of production at New Line Cinema before joining Warner Bros, so unlike some other heads of studios, he has been elsewhere.
Emmerich has been a huge part of Warner Bros success as of recent, a change at the chairman position could bring about vast change at the studio in general. He has been instrumental in the development of one of the best streaming services of the last half decade. Though exact numbers of how well HBO Max is doing are unknown, the content on the platform is some of the best throughout streaming platforms.
Representatives on both sides have had little if nothing to comment about the story, but this is certainly an intriguing story to look to as sometimes the politics behind a movie in the studio system are more interesting than some actual movies.
