WOMP WOMP WOMP! Warner Bros. has announced that the movie We Are Your Friends – centered around the electronic dance music (EDM) scene – will drop in theaters August 28. The movie stars Zac Efron (Neighbors), Emily Ratajkowski (Gone Girl), and Wes Bentley (The Hunger Games). It follows DJ Cole Carter (Efron) as he tries to break into L.A.’s electronic music scene. The movie is the feature directorial debut for Max Joseph, who co-wrote the script with first-time writer Meaghan Oppenheimer.
Efron has been trying to shed his Disney Channel image for some time now, receiving acclaim for his performance as the fraternity president in the 2014 comedy Neighbors (which is getting a sequel). He has two more comedies in the works – Dirty Grandpa and Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates. Ratajkowski is also building her resume, which began with her role in last fall’s Gone Girl and will continue this summer with Entourage. Bentley will star in the thriller Broken Vows and the upcoming remake of Pete’s Dragon for Disney.
We Are Your Friends will face stiff competition on its release date from the video game adaptation Hitman: Agent 47 and the Ethan Hawke thriller Regression.
