Walmart, the massive store chain has always had a presence in the film industry with their stores providing many cheap options for movie fans to by DVD’s and Blue-rays. Their presence on the industry is changing for now as a result of the coronavirus pandemic with the corporate conglomerate set to transform over 160 parking lots into makeshift drive-in theaters.
As written here before, drive in theaters are unique as their business model is perfect for the new age of social distancing, allowing people to get their movie fix while not being at risk of getting or spreading the disease that has rocked the world. Walmart announced earlier today that they will be partnering with Tribeca Drive-In starting today, July 2, where select cities can enjoy viewings of Wonder Women and Space Jam.
If you are a movie lover in Arlington TX; Pasadena CA, Nassau County NY, and Orchard Beach in the Bronx, New York, you will be able to view these entertainment classics.
It will be interesting to see if this trend expands, with the recent spike in coronavirus cases in the United States, the industry is not returning to normal anytime soon and it is encouraging that companies are embracing these sort of creative solutions to spread some joy in a time that may feel joyless.
