Walden Media have been placed in a sort of a rock and a hard place. Both Wonder and The Star, two films by Walden Media, have been set to release on the same day because of the companies above Walden Media, according to Deadline. The Star was set to release this weekend, but Sony decided to move the film to next weekend. Wonder, on the other hand, had an original release date of April 7th until Lionsgate moved the film to its current release date.
Although one could argue that they are completely different films, — Wonder focuses on a disfigured child who learns to face his differences and shine as an amazing person and student that everyone adores and The Star focuses on a group of animals that eventually join the cast of the first Christmas — both of the films are targeted towards a young demographic.
The Star could have arguably faced a better opening weekend if it opened this weekend, with its competition being Daddy’s Home 2 and Murder on the Orient Express, which are more for adult audiences. The pushed released date also places The Star closer to the almost guaranteed Academy Award nominee Coco, which comes out in November 22nd. It will be interesting to see how the two movies will fare with the same release date.
