Viola Davis Set to Receive The 48th Chaplin Award

Viola Davis is set to receive the 48th Chaplin Award at the Lincoln Center on April 24, in New York City. After achieving the highly coveted EGOT status (winner of an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony Award), the actor will be honored at the gala for her achievements. Most recently she won the 2023 Grammy for her audiobook narration and storytelling for her memoir, Finding Me.

“Viola Davis brings her tremendous skill and fierce emotional intelligence to everything she does,” said Lesli Klainberg, president of Film at Lincoln Center, in a statement on Thursday, “The range of her accomplishments is remarkable — as an actor in film, television, and theater; as a producer opening doors for new voices; and as an inspirational memoirist. She is truly a force. We are honored to dedicate an evening to celebrating her achievements and talents at the 48th Chaplin Award gala.”

Davis has four Academy Award nominations under her belt, and won her first Oscar for her performance in Fences, in 2017. She was snubbed of a nomination in 2023 for her role in The Woman KingThe Help actress is a five-time Emmy nominee with four of those nominations for her role as Annalise Keating in How to Get Away With Murder. In 2015, she won the award for best actress in a drama series.

Proceeds from the Chaplin Award Gala will go to support Film at the Lincoln Center’s year-round cinematheque programs, as well as their contemporary film series, student programs, and film festivals.

Davis will also be receiving the Chairman’s Award at the Palm Springs Film Awards, for her work in The Woman King. Davis is set to appear next in Ben Affleck’s Air, which is an upcoming American biographical comedy-drama written by Alex Convery and will be released by Amazon Studios on April 5.

Davis’ other film credits include: Widows, Suicide Squad, Ender’s Game, Beautiful Creatures, Doubt, Get On Up, Blackhat, Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, Nights in Rodanthe, Law Abiding Citizen, Disturbia, It’s Kind of a Funny Story, Never Back Down, Far From Heaven, and others.
