Vin Diesel’s upcoming The Last Witch Hunter is getting its script polished. It seems Summit Entertainment is enlisting the help of Academy Award Nominee Melisa Wallack to do some fine-tuning on its fantasy adventure flick that has been in development since 2010.
On the coattails of his success with the Fast & Furious franchise, Diesel has been racking up more projects to capitalize on his increased demand at the worldwide box office. Fast & Furious 7 has resumed filming, and he will be making an appearance (or rather his voice will) as Groot in this Marvel’s highly anticipated Guardians of the Galaxy, due this August. The Last Witch Hunter positions Diesel as an immortal witch hunter who battles an uprising of witches in modern-day New York.
Cory Goodman has written the script for The Last Witch Hunter and it appears Summit needs Oscar-caliber talent to hone this new potential star-vehicle for Diesel. Goodman’s last produced script was 2011’s Priest starring Paul Bettany, Karl Urban, and Maggie Q. Given Priest’s relatively cool reception, Summit may wish to get all its ducks in a row before it gives the go ahead. Fresh off her Academy Award Nomination for the Oscar-winning Dallas Buyer’s Club (which she shared with Craig Borten), Wallack will be lending her talents to this entirely new genre. Currently, her only other credit as screenwriter was when wrote and co-directed 2007’s Meet Bill starring Aaron Eckhart to mixed reviews.
If Wallack can get the script to “Go” status, and everything falls into place, The Crazies’ Breck Eisner is currently slated to direct with 300’s Bernie Goldman producing.
