Disney and Pixar’s animated blockbuster Toy Story 5 is scheduled to make its streaming debut exclusively on Disney+ on September 23, 2026. The home release follows three months after the film launched its record-setting theatrical run in June. Directed by Academy Award winner Andrew Stanton (WALL-E, Finding Nemo) and co-directed by McKenna Harris, the fifth installment in the flagship franchise earned $160 million during its opening weekend domestically.
That debut marked the biggest box office opening of 2026, the second-highest domestic launch in history for an animated film behind Pixar’s Incredibles 2 ($182.6 million), and the third-largest June opening of all time behind Jurassic World and Incredibles 2. The feature has since crossed $1.13 billion worldwide, becoming the third entry in the series to achieve the billion-dollar milestone alongside 2010’s Toy Story 3 and 2019’s Toy Story 4.
Produced by Lindsey Collins and Jessica Choi, the screenplay was written by Stanton and Harris from an original story by Stanton. The narrative explores a confrontation between traditional playthings and digital electronics when Woody, Buzz Lightyear, and cowgirl Jessie find their place in young Bonnie’s life disrupted by the arrival of Lilypad, a frog-themed smart tablet device equipped with modern software and interactive apps.
The voice cast features returning franchise stars Tom Hanks as Woody, Tim Allen as Buzz Lightyear, and Joan Cusack as Jessie, alongside new additions including Greta Lee as Lilypad, Conan O’Brien, Scarlett Spears, Shelby Rabara, and Mykal-Michelle Harris.
