‘Veronica Mars’ Headed to Theaters March 2014

“Veronica Mars: The Movie” Gets a Release Date

After its unprecedented Kickstarter campaign, Veronica Mars, starring Kristen Bell in the title role from the cult television series, is headed to the big screen. Rob Thomas, the creator of the quick-witted UPN series revolving around a teenage sleuth, directed and co-wrote the fan approved film, which will hit screens March 14, 2014.

The film will open almost exaclty a year after its historic and widely successful Kickstarter campaign.  The success of the online fundraising campaign for the Veronica Mars film has raised numerous debates within the industry, especially considering that the film is ultimately a part of a huge corporate machine – Warner Bros., a producer of the television series, will distribute the film.  The success of Veronica Mars, which earned upwards of $5 million in fan-endorsed fundraising, further sparked other known artists including Zach Braff and Spike Lee to join the fray with their own projects.

The television series ran for three seasons on the fledgling UPN network, and the film and the film will bring back the majority of the members of the principle cast led by Bell, Percy Daggs III as pal Wallace Fennel, Enrico Colantoni as dad Keith, and Jason Dohring as antagonist/love interest Logan.  The film will also feature James Franco, Jamie Lee Curtis and Justin Long.  While plot details for the most part are still under wraps, the story picks up several years after the series concluded with a grown up Veronica drawn back to Neptune, California, with a love triangle set to unfurl between her, her good-natured boyfriend of final season “Piz” (Chris Lowell) and bad boy Logan.
